Power Generation from Waste Heat - ORC Demonstration Unit
DRD Power Ltd have developed an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) based demonstration unit for power generation from industrial low grade heat sources, under a project part funded by the Carbon Trust (grant value £0.25M). JCHEM Design provided process design services to the project
This included an initial study to evaluate potential working fluids and an evaluation of cycle efficiency, preliminary equipment sizing and system optimization for the selected working fluid.
JCHEM Design produced the process engineering package for the 130 kW demonstration unit, which was constructed in 2011 and has since been operating successfully on industrial waste heat steams.
See the DRD Power website at http://drdpower.co.uk/ and a summary of the project can be seen at the Carbon Trust website
