Carbon Capture and Sequestration by Mineralisation : Techno-Economic Assessment for the Energy Technologies Institute (ETI)
The study involved the techno-economic assessment of an ammonia based process for the mineralisation of CO2, the requirement being to remove 80% of the flue gas CO2 from a 300 MW coal fired power plant.
A schematic of the overall process is shown in the accompanying figure. A crucial part of the study required the development by JCHEM Design of a practical process scheme using the proposed chemistry, from which a detailed heat and mass balance was generated. Capital and operating costs were evaluated.
